Background: March 15, 2019 marked the 80th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Carpathian Ukraine. On that day, in the face of the final collapse of Czechoslovakia (Germany seized the rest of the Czech Republic and Slovakia declared independence) and armed aggression by Hungary, the Soim of Carpathian Ukraine in the city of Khust declared the independence of the region. Augustin Voloshyn was elected president. The soldiers of the Carpathian Sich stood up to defend their land, challenging Hitler's ally Hungary.
