Reference: The Sarmatians are a nomadic Iranian-speaking people who in the 2nd century BC displaced the Scythians from the steppes of the Northern Black Sea Region, in particular from the territory of modern Zaporizhzhia. Archaeological finds in Zaporizhia (burial mounds, horse equipment, weapons) indicate the active presence of Sarmatian tribes in this region until the 4th century AD. The Local History Museum in Zaporizhia preserves unique artifacts from the Sarmatian era found in the steppes of the Lower Dnieper, including burial complexes, weapons, and jewelry.
